DAY 133: Contractor Badge Training
As part of my new job I need access to some of the less ‘corporate’ areas of my industry. Namely the main processing plants at the big oil companies out here. For a big project we are doing in August I’ll be spending a lot of time out there. To gain access to these areas I had to complete a day of training which was both mind numbingly boring at time and extremely interesting. The last section of the training was about hazard identification and that was truly scary. They showed a video of someone who instead of safely disposing of excess propane gas from a delivery tank, decided to just set it free into the atmosphere… and try and cool his bottle of water in the freezing gas being released. Static electricity leads to a spark, leads to a bit of a fire, leads to a man getting a little burnt. Shocking stuff.
But, I passed and the next day and you can see my lovely new badge attached. I made the mistake of wearing a white t-shirt, so now it looks like they decapitated me to take the photo.
